Panama Canal cruises take you on a luxurious journey through history. The Panama Canal was the second large scale Canal Project in the world, after the Suez Canal. The French were the first to try to create a passageway through the Americas, but little did they know what they were in for. Unlike the Suez Canal, which was dug mainly through loose sand, the Panama Canal was built through rocky tropical mountains.

After the French gave up their effort, Theodore Roosevelt took up where the French left off. However, he knew that the area was infested with malaria and yellow fever, (which, as you can well understand, makes a place rather uninviting), so he first spent a great amount of time disinfecting the entire passageway. To this day, incidents of malaria and yellow fever along the Panama Canal Valley are well below those numbers in surrounding areas.

Panama Canal Cruises Today
Today, you can see firsthand all of the effort, hard work, and dedication that was first started 100 years ago. If you take Panama Canal cruises, your boat will go through a series of interlocking waterways that lower and raise the boat as it makes its way through. Along the way, there are many places to get off to see the beautiful tropical valley.

The great thing about Panama Canal cruises is that, once through, you will experience the breathtaking view that Balboa did 500 years ago when he became the first European to gaze upon the Pacific Ocean. Once through the Canal, your cruise ship can take you to exotic destinations along the west coast to South America, or head north to experience Mexico.
